Visit one of the most artistically rich and beautiful regions of Italy: Tuscany. Stay in Florence and explore the local architecture, arts, wines and foods by day trips to the most picturesque towns including: Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa and Lucca.
Wednesday, November 25
Departures: NAS II 3:30 a.m. | Marinai 3:45 a.m. | NAS I 4:00 a.m.
Depart from base to Catania Airport for a 6:00 a.m. flight to Rome. Fly from Rome and arrive in Florence at 10:40 a.m. After landing, you will transfer by bus to Pisa where you can explore the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and Miracoli Square on your own with some help from your tour escorts. After your departure from Pisa, be transported to Hotel Alinari in Florence. You will check-in and meet with the Community Recreation tour escorts to receive an orientation tour of the area. Dinner will be on your own.
Thursday, November 26
After breakfast at the hotel (included), take a walking tour in the heart of Florence with a local guide. Next, stop in the Tuscan countryside for Thanksgiving lunch at the famous Verrazzano Winery (www.verrazzano.com.) (included). In the evening you will have dinner on your own.
Friday, November 27
After breakfast (included), depart the hotel to visit two beautiful and historically rich locations: San Gimignano and Siena. First will be the town of San Gimignano to explore the medieval towers. Second, will be the town of Siena, where we will tour the splendid Piazza del Campo and the 12th century Cathedral. We will then return to Florence for dinner on your own.
Saturday, November 28
After breakfast (included), spend the day on your own exploring Florence. There will be free time to shop and visit the famous Florentine leather shops, daily market and the city’s outstanding museums.
Sunday, November 29
After breakfast (included) and check-out (Time T.B.A. due to road closures for the Florence Marathon), depart the hotel for the city of Lucca. After exploring the ancient city walls and rich renaissance of the area on your own (with some help from your tour escorts), you will depart to the airport for a 7:00 p.m. flight from Florence to Rome. Fly from Rome to Catania Airport with an 11:20 p.m. arrival. Return to NAS I around midnight.
