MWR Sigonella is excited to announce that we will host Autumnfest, our fall festival, on NAS I this year sponsored in part by our Title Sponsor, USAA, and our Silver Level Sponsor, The Family Ink! 

  • Friday, October 21 from 4-10 p.m. (Base access ID Cardholders ONLY)
  • Saturday, October 22 from 5-11 p.m. (up to 5 sponsored guests per ID allowed this day ONLY)

Autumnfest will bring out all the fun including:

The Department of the Navy does not endorse any company, sponsor or their products or services.


  • If you are interested in applying to be a Food Booth Vendor at Autumnfest, please contact Nathan Henkenius at for more information. This is a great opportunity for your organization to fundraise! There will be 10 food booth spaces available for this event. All eligible Command Authorized Private Organizations are welcome to apply. 


  • Volunteers are needed for both days and official LOA's will be provided. Please contact Nathan Henkenius at if you are interested in volunteering as there are multiple opportunities on both days.

Event Details:


  • Registration: Registration is not required for those attending the festival
  • Price: Admission to Autumnfest is Free
    (Carnival Rides require ticket purchases, there will be food booth vendors and craft vendors as well with food and items available for purchase)
  • Time: October 21, 4 - 10 p.m. & October 22, 5 - 11 p.m.
  • Location: NAS I Midtown Courtyard
  • Open to: All DoD, NATO, and US host nation ID cardholders of all ages. ITAF active duty also welcome.
  • Sponsorship: This year, all ID card holders with regular access to NAS I are authorized to sponsor up to 5 guests per ID card holder on Saturday, October 22 ONLY. This includes U.S. Military, Dependents, DoD Civilians, Contractors, NATO, Local National employees of NASSIG, as well as ITAF NAS II personnel. All groups with guests, not regularly affiliated with NAS I, must enter/exit via foot through the Annex Gate with their ID card holding sponsors. Sponsors with guests will not be permitted to park on installation or enter via the NAS I Main Gate. Please call 624-6387 for more information about base sponsorship protocols. No guests will be permitted to enter after 9:30 p.m.
  • Parking: Sponsors with guests will not be permitted to park on base and must park outside of the gate and walk on. For a small fee, business owners directly across from NAS I Main Entrance have agreed to provide parking in their lots. We kindly ask that guests to not park on SS-192, the street that runs in front of the NAS I installation. For base access ID cardholders, parking will be available on base except for Midtown, ITT and CDC parking lots (closed for the festival).
  • Event Activities: The festival will feature the Strongman Competition, Carnival Rides, Kid's Inflatables, Haunted Nerf Battle, Haunted House, Variety Acts, Live Entertainment, Food Vendors, Craft Vendors, a Beer tent and much more!
  • POC: For general questions, patrons are directed to call Community Recreation at 624-4777; for additional info or patron issues, please call Tom Kubalewski (MWR Director) at 624-4941.
  • COVID-19 Restrictions: Masks are encouraged when social distancing is not possible.
  • Shuttles: MWR will supplement the regular base shuttle with additional shuttles to and from Marinai and NAS II. A Shuttle schedule will be published the week prior to the event.   
  • Pets: Pets are not allowed for this event.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol will be available for purchase at beer tents during the event.  
  • Smoking: Smoking is not permitted at this event.
  • Contraband: Knives of any size (including box cutters and sharp objects), BB Guns (Air Soft), slingshots, fireworks of any kind, illegal drugs, and any other items the CO deems as contraband are not allowed. If the item presents a potential threat to the base, please do not attempt to bring it to the event.
  • Dress Code: There is no dress code for this event, however, Halloween costumes will be welcomed!
  • Restrooms: Restrooms will be available in Midtown and Connections for patron use.



Men's and Women's Divisions - Lightweight, Middleweight & Heavyweight

  • Price: $21 - includes competition and this year's Strongman tank. Can be paid at either Fitness Center after registration.
  • Mandatory Participants Meeting: October 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the NAS I Midtown Lobby, everyone will be put into different divisions, men's and women's lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight.
  • Time: Competition starts at 9 a.m., the final event will be at 6 p.m. (Winners will be announced on stage during Autumnfest)
  • Location: NAS I Midtown Courtyard
  • Open to: 18+ and out of high school Base Access ID cardholders including Active Duty, NATO, DoD or anyone who pays for a daily or monthly membership at the Fitness Centers.
  • Event Activities: 6 events including Deadlift, Log Press, Dball Obstacle, Sandbag Toss, Yoke Carry and a surprise final event (final event only for top 2 competitors in each division)

AutumnFest 2022 FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):

As NAS Sigonella and its community friends prepare to celebrate Autumnfest activities, we are
providing information and guidance to ensure a great event. Here is an FAQ of main questions for visitors.

Q: Is this year’s Autumnfest a 2-day event?

A: Yes. It is a 2-day event but only one day is open to the off-base Italian community.
Friday, 21 October will only be open to individuals who have regular access to the base.
Saturday, 22 October, everyone is welcome to come as long as they have a sponsor.

Q: As a base employee, how many guests can I bring to Autumnfest?

A: Guests are only allowed at Autumnfest on Saturday, 22 October. On this day, all
adult U.S. ID card holders are allowed to sponsor up to five (5) guests who do not
have Department of Defense (DOD) Identification.  In addition, base employees (both
U.S. and Local National) are also extended authorization to sponsor up to five (5)
guests who do not have Department of Defense (DOD) Identification. The age of the
guest being sponsored is irrelevant. If they are 1 day old, they still count as one of the 5

Q: How do my guests gain access to the base?

A: Sponsors and all guests must bring valid photo identification to the Annex Gate,
which will open at 17:00. The Main Gate will be closed to all without DoD ID cards. Any
guest who does not provide photo identification will not be allowed access to
Autumnfest. Guests will also not be allowed access without their sponsors. Guests may
enter through the annex gate until 21:30, at which point entrance will be stopped.
Guests may stay until the completion of the event, which will be 23:00.

Q: Do base employees have to stay with their sponsored guests during the

A: Yes. Sponsors, both U.S. and Local Nationals, will be held responsible for the
conduct and general whereabouts of their guests. Sponsors should also personally
know the guests they are bringing to the Autumnfest event. Base employees should not
agree to sponsor people they don't know well.

Q: Will parking be provided inside the base?

A: No. Only DoD cardholders will be permitted to park on base via the Main Gate. All
guests must park outside of the gate.

Q: Where can guests find event parking outside the base?

agreed to provide parking in their lots. We kindly ask that guests do not park on SS-192,

Q: Will there be a guest list so my guests can access the base without their

A: No. Guests must be accompanied by their sponsor. If the sponsor is not present,
guests will be turned away at the Annex Gate. Assuring that guests are not left stranded
at the gate is another reason we strongly encourage sponsors to carpool with their
guests. If for some reason this is not possible, sponsors should pre-plan a designated
meeting place away from the Annex Gate.

Q: What are the base entry restrictions?

A: Pets, glass bottles, containers, backpacks, contraband (including box cutters or other
sharp objects) are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from being brought onto the base.

Q: When will the parking lots on base be secured in preparation for AutumnFest?

The following is a list of NAS I parking lot closure dates and times in preparation for the
• Midtown & CDC Parking Lots will be secured at 2300 on 16 October
• ITT parking lot will be secured at 2300 on 18 October

Vehicles parked in secured locations after the times listed above will be towed at the
owner’s expense. These areas will be secured until after the event has concluded and
the parking lots have been cleaned. All lots will reopen by 4:00 p.m. on 24 October or

Q: What kinds of bags are not allowed on base?

A: Coolers and backpacks will not be authorized. Bags exceeding a 12"x 6"x 12"
dimension also will not be allowed to enter the base. Authorized bags will be allowed
after they have been screened.

Q: What about strollers and diaper bags for those with small children?

A: Strollers will be allowed for caretakers of small children after screening. The same
applies to diaper bags long as they are not in exceedance of the 12"x 6"x 12"

Q: What is considered contraband?

A: Knives of any size, BB guns (Air Soft), slingshots, fireworks of any kind, drugs, and
any other items the CO deems as contraband on the installation. We require guests to
use common sense. If the item presents a potential threat to the base, do not attempt to
bring it to the event.

Q: Will alcohol be served?

A: Yes, and we want all guests to have a great time. However, please know that random
Breathalyzers will be administered to guests leaving the gate. Legal actions will be
taken against those who are driving and have exceeded the legal limit of alcohol intake.
Simply stated, if you are driving, do not consume any alcohol. Additional shuttles will be
provided throughout the event to transport patrons between NAS I, NAS II, and Marinai.

Q: Will smoking be permitted at the event?

A: No, smoking will not be permitted at the event.

Q: Will restrooms be available at the event?

A: Yes, and the locations will be identified on the event map.

Q: Will shuttle services run in the triangle?

A: Yes. Shuttle service will be provided throughout the event. For specific departures of
the shuttle bus, please refer to the schedule located in the bus stops. The shuttle will
pick-up and drop-off riders at NAS I in the loop near the DoDDS School; at NAS II in
front of the Flight Clinic; and at Marinai at the first bus stop inside of the main gate near
the Youth Center. A comprehensive shuttle schedule will be released the week of the

A: No. Non-ID holders are not allowed to purchase NEX or Commissary items.

Q: Anything else?

A: Yes. Please use caution while transiting to and from NAS I as there will be increased
traffic and parked vehicles outside of the installation.
